The Village Hall
The hall was built by the owner of Sarsden House, Henry John, 3rd Earl of Ducie, in 1870 as a reading room for the use of villagers. When the earl died in 1922, the building was presented to the village by his daughter Lady Eversley. After the second World War it was converted into the village hall.
It is used by many local organisations, including the Parish Council, Art Classes, Village Committees and the Cricket Club. Many functions are held here by people who live in the parish and from outside. Our main space can seat up to 70 people for occasions such as birthday parties and wedding receptions.

CHURCHILL & SARSDEN VILLAGE HALL REFURBISHMENT UPDATE
Thanks to our many generous local residents with their personal donations, to the parish council with its financial contributions, to events organisers and local trusts, our refurbishment kitty has reached £65,000 which is real progress towards the total of £220,000 needed for a complete overhaul of the Hall’s facilities.
Our request for proposals for carrying out the refurb received three excellent responses, from which we have a chosen contractor in local builder Clarke Construction. Initial work on the heating and lighting is planned to start in the new year.
We can also now submit a significant grant application to the National Lottery, something which has been held up for some time by two major impediments – firstly the Village Hall’s charitable constitution dating back to 1954 was not appropriate for such applications, and we also had a major problem in actually proving our ownership of the Hall based on a conveyance from the Sarsden estate made in 1922.
Both obstacles have finally been overcome: we are now a modern Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission and our local solicitor, Georg at Bradley Saul in Chippy, has managed to obtain full and permanent title to the property and site for us with the Land Registry. Georg also worked wonders in sorting out the Parish Council’s title to the village green including the Langston Memorial Fountain.
There may well be more troubles ahead, and our application for a grant from the National Lottery is still in its early stages with no certainty of success – but the Village Hall Fit for the Future refurb project is now well and truly on its way.
Our huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to the fund, whether via donations, or by attending one of our fundraising events. And of course everyone who has volunteered time and enthusiasm to making events come to life!

Lifts~R~Us free transport service
If you’re having difficulty getting to local medical appointments and you’re a resident of Churchill or Sarsden, then help is at hand.
Lifts-R-Us is our free taxi service, sponsored by Churchill and Sarsden Village Hall. If you’re elderly, less than fully mobile and without your own vehicle, we can help you get to the doctor’s surgery, the dentist, the optician or other essential medical-related local destination. And back home again, door to door.
We can also provide a medication collection service for pre-ordered prescriptions at local surgeries and pharmacies.
